AlpiStats
Visitor privacy

What we measure, and what we do not.

AlpiStats counts visits, not people, and only after the visitor’s consent. Here is exactly what is recorded, and how to inform your visitors. The statistics only cover visitors who have accepted: they are not an exhaustive count.

Measured

  • Page views (addresses filtered before storage)
  • Referring site and campaigns (utm_*)
  • Country (inferred from the IP address at the time of the visit)
  • Type of browser, system and device, screen size, language
  • Events chosen by the site (for example “sign-up”)
  • A visit identifier calculated on the server side and renewed every day
  • Bots, counted separately (number per day and per type), never as visitors
  • If the site enables it: clicks to other sites (domain only), downloads, form submissions (never their content), page reading and internal searches
  • If the site enables it: page loading speed, attached to the page and the visit like a page view
  • Sales reported by the site (amount and currency); the order number is never kept
  • In Complete mode only (site option), after the visitor’s consent: a random identifier kept for 6 months at most in their browser, to recognise their later visits (never a cookie), and a pseudonymised log of their visits, linked to a site-specific fingerprint and never to the identifier itself
  • The visitor’s choice (acceptance or refusal), remembered for 6 months, and its proof: date, choice, scope, version and language of the text, receipt fingerprint

Never

  • No cookie; in Essential mode, no persistent audience identifier in the browser
  • No measurement before consent, after a refusal, after a withdrawal or after the choice expires
  • No difference in treatment between Swiss and European visitors
  • No IP address kept
  • No tracking from one site to another; in Essential mode, no tracking from one day to the next
  • No city, no region, no browser fingerprint
  • Emails, numbers, tokens and identifiers in page addresses: automatic filtering of common formats, completed by your rewriting rules
  • No resale, no advertising

Two modes, chosen site by site, always after consent

Essential mode

To measure the audience without recognising visitors from one visit to the next

The AlpiStats banner (Alpi or Plain) asks for the visitor’s consent; until they accept, and if they refuse, nothing is measured. After they accept, AlpiStats counts page views, referrer, device and country, without a persistent audience identifier in the browser. A small badge lets them change their choice. If your site already has its own consent banner, you can link it to AlpiStats.

Audience measurement: this website uses AlpiStats, a Swiss visit statistics service. With your consent, requested through a banner, AlpiStats measures page views, where they come from, your device and your country, without cookies and without a persistent audience identifier in your browser. Visit data is hosted and processed in Switzerland. Detailed data is kept for 6 months at most; only anonymous totals (page views, visits) are kept for 25 months. If you refuse, no AlpiStats audience measurement takes place. Your choice is valid for 6 months and you can change it at any time with the small badge at the bottom of the page.

Complete mode (optional)

To measure unique visitors, returning visitors and attribution

Same banner, same prior consent. After the visitor’s consent, a random identifier (never a cookie) is kept for 6 months at most in their browser to recognise their later visits, and a pseudonymised log of their visits is kept, linked to a site-specific fingerprint and never to the identifier itself. If they refuse, no measurement takes place, in Essential mode or otherwise. Withdrawal, at any time via the badge, stops the measurement, erases the identifier and deletes the log data linked to the visitor.

The choice of mode is yours, but the rule of prior consent is the same for all visitors and in both modes. If in doubt about your situation, have it checked. Visitors can also withdraw their consent at any time from a link on your site that calls alpistats.optOut().
